Iran’s War Damage Toll Hits 37 Trillion Tomans - IranWire

The Islamic Revolution Housing Foundation announced that the damage inflicted on residential units, commercial properties, and personal belongings during the 40-day war across Iran, excluding Tehran, is estimated at more than 37 trillion Tomans.

Majid Judi, Deputy for Reconstruction and Rural Housing at the Housing Foundation, told the state-run IRNA news agency on Wednesday, August 19, that more than 140,000 damage assessment files have been opened so far. According to him, approximately 110,000 files relate to homes and commercial units, while nearly 35,000 pertain to livelihood damage and personal household belongings.

Judi stated that 25 Iranian provinces suffered damage during the war, with the Housing Foundation evaluating losses across a total of 407 cities and villages, comprising 222 urban areas and 185 rural areas.

These statistics do not include Tehran. Since the beginning of the war, the assessment and reconstruction of damage in the capital have been delegated to the Tehran Municipality, and according to Judi, the Housing Foundation lacks precise data on the extent of damage sustained by Tehran.

He added that since March 18, responsibility for reconstructing metropolises with populations exceeding one million has been handed over to their respective municipal governments.

The foundation official stated that repairs have been completed on 63,526 damaged units so far, while roughly 1,200 units were severely damaged and must be rebuilt entirely from scratch. According to the Housing Foundation’s forecasts, the reconstruction process for fully destroyed units will continue through March 2028.

Judi reported that the total funds secured and disbursed for damage compensation so far amount to approximately 6.5 trillion Tomans, a figure that covers only a limited portion of the financial need when compared with the total estimated damage of over 37 trillion Tomans.

According to the deputy, Ilam, Kermanshah, and Kurdistan suffered the highest levels of damage, both in terms of the number of incidents and total financial value, among the regions under the foundation’s coverage.

The Housing Foundation’s figures only cover damage to housing, commercial units, and household assets under its jurisdiction. They do not account for damage to infrastructure, industrial or military installations, or the full scope of damage sustained in Tehran.
