Even as the joint U.S.-Israeli war with Iran simmers, delegations continue to flow back and forth from Israel to Georgia , showing solidarity between the economies amid a prolonged period of uncertainty.
An Israel cybersecurity delegation is set to land in Atlanta for a summit July 29, the latest group the latest group to seek out business ties even the conflict has flared up again after a nearly two-month of reprieve.
The state of Georgia , meanwhile, has been in the process of naming its newest representative in Israel, betting that investment and trade collaboration will continue over the long run. Drive TLV , an incubator in Tel Aviv with ties to some key Atlanta corporates, brought yet another group to Atlanta in February to talk about the future of mobility.
Israel hasn’t been a part of this latest round of U.S. strikes on Iran, which come as American leadership accuses Iran of reneging on commitments in the June memorandum to cede control of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iranian assertions of control of the strait, along with its attacks on American and partner bases in the Middle East, have triggered a renewal of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports and ramped up bombings on Iranian military targets and infrastructure.
Bolstered by its high-tech exports, Israel’s economy has remained resilient across nearly three years of war, first fighting Hamas in Gaza after the Oct. 7 terrorist attacks, then taking on both Iran and its proxies in Lebanon . The Bank of Israel in April forecast 3.8 percent year-over-year growth for the year.
Still, foreign tourism is down precipitously as the war upends travel around the Middle East. In May, Delta Air Lines Inc. extended the pause of its Atlanta- Tel Aviv flight to Dec. 18.
In January, before the latest iteration of the Iran war began, the Consulate General of Israel orchestrated a (government-backed) delegation from the Technology Association of Georgia , or TAG, aiming to showcase Israeli innovation and resiliency in the aftermath of the tragic killing of more than 1,200 Israelis in October 2023.
The message from Israel, said longtime TAG International Business Society board chair Brian Holloway ? “We’re open for business.”
Mr. Holloway, valuation principal at accounting firm Frazier & Deeter , said the 12-person group got a whirlwind tour of the organizations and incubators that underpin Israel’s vaunted technology ecosystem.
Israel, according to Georgia Israel Business Alliance , created more unicorns in 2026 than any other year in history: 19 companies with a combined valuation of $32.3 billion as of July.
Mr. Holloway was struck by the renewed spirit of partnership that underpinned discussions in agencies like the Israel Export Institute, Startup Nation Central and the Cyberspark National Innovation Complex , as well as in the offices of private software companies.
“I feel like they were interested and intrigued and wanted to understand more about Georgia,” he said, noting that many interlocutors reached out after the trip to keep the conversation going. “Every place that we went was very open to continuing the dialogue and definitely emphasized that.”
On the cultural front, the group met with leaders from Ra’anana, Atlanta’s sister city in the country, and was also given a solemn glimpse of the anguish Israel endured after the Oct. 7 attacks.
They met with survivors from the Nova music festival massacre, where 378 Israelis were killed and 44 taken hostage, precipitating the bloody invasion of Gaza as Israel sought to neutralize the Hamas threat.
What stuck out was the resilience of the survivors and returned hostages, Mr. Holloway said, and the way the country, very polarized politically by many accounts, had rallied internally and also redoubled efforts to deepen international partnerships.
“It just stalled their growth, but I feel like they’ve rebounded nicely,” Mr. Holloway said. “Definitely the U.S. is up there at the top of the list (of partners), and they’re wanting more collaboration and more partnerships.”
Mr. Holloway thanked Consul General Eitan Weiss for his team’s hands-on assistance in organizing and carrying out the trip, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the ground.
He sees the trip as one step on the road to even deeper ties, evidenced already by TAG hosting the Israeli cybersecurity group on this side of the Atlantic.
“They want us to come back over there.”
