Let’s simply be civil and find ways to live together.
No, that won’t work today. Maybe in a thousand years from now but not today. So now what?
First of all, we need to understand that to win your opponent must concede. They have an equal vote too.
To make my point, if you’ve been around a while, like me, you probably remember some of the most famous prize fighters like Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.
They won by not losing. They refused to concede.
Remember Muhammad’s famous offense “rope-a-dope?”
He hung on the ropes letting his opponent beat up on him until they were exhausted — then he took his turn.
It should be obvious by now that the regime in Iran, caring very little for their civilian disaster of today, is not going to concede.
We do not need for them to concede to prevent them from having atomic weapons; our stated goal.
• Stop wasting million-dollar missiles and bombs. We will likely run out before they give up.
And today we are likely only bombing waste piles anyway.
• Give up on opening the Strait of Hormuz. Let the rest of the world work on that.
They need it opened more than we do.
• Use a couple of war ships to blockade Iran’s use of the strait.
We have ships of all kinds all over the world; why not a couple at the Strait.
• About once a month, drop a bomb or send a missile to anything in Iran that looks like a weapon’s manufacturer or uranium enrichment facility.
It’s pretty hard to make much progress on anything with a bomb a month on you. And we can easily afford that.
• Use all our economic controls and financial advantages to deny Iran money to wage war and in fact to live on.
• Enlist our allies, in a friendly way, to support the goal of denying any other nation the goal of owning atomic weapons. Got too many already.
Makes sense to me. We stop wasting money and lives on a war we obviously can’t win with legal means.
Actually, with the plan stated above we do win; even if Iran does not lose.
At the very least Iran will not be able to claim any kind of victory. And we can stop wasting money and lives.
We can, by our definition, win, by not losing.
We simply need to start being the smart player in the war game.
